mOthersuckers’ Project
A collaboration between artists Zoë Gingell and Eve Dent since 2009; the mothersuckers project explores the relationship between motherhood, parenting and arts practice through conversation, performance, and active response via art making. Creating joint artworks alongside our solo art practices, they became an organized body in 2013 to pursue curatorial ambitions, research and commissioning to extend their creative conversation into a broader investigation and connection with other artists and groups concerned with voicing the maternal experience, with a consideration of the wider notion of the parental.
Our first collaboration was ‘Breastcups’ in 2009, an installation of sculpture, film and performance which was first performed in Experimentica festival at Chapter, and then went on tour to France in 2011, and to the Barbican aspart of the Surreal House exhibition in 2012.
We continue our creative conversation as artists, curators and producers, currently around representation of the full maternal life-cycles, through the absence of representation of the ‘post-fertile’ experience and identity.
